Claude Thompson

In 1970, after many years of studying music and liturgical singing, Claude Thompson received his Doctorate in sacred music, with the mention Summa cum Laude, from the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in Rome.

Monsignor Thompson, while pursuing his vocation of musical educator with the Petits Chanteurs, was appointed to the Trois-Rivières Conservatory of Music where, from 1973 to 1979 he gave courses in the history of music. From 1973 to 1986, he also lectured at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières.

Claude Thompson has composed some fifty choral works and three works for choir and orchestra, including a Magnificat, created in May 1992. He has also scored a number of folk songs.

As Director of the Petits Chanteurs de Trois-Rivières, Claude Thompson has taken the choir on a number of tours in Europe, in the United States and throughout Canada. He has directed les Petits Chanteurs de Trois-Rivières in radio and television broadcasts and the rigorous standard of their performances has been underlined by many highly laudatory reviews.

He has produced some twenty records and cassettes.

Claude Thompson has been awarded many decorations in recognition of the artistic quality of his work as Director of the Petits Chanteurs de Trois-Rivières. In 1992 he was awarded the title of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the Government of France and, in 1992 the Government of Quebec honoured him with the Ordre du Québec.
