Biography:
Karen Hart graduated on the Dean’s list from East Carolina University, with
a concentration in voice performance, where she attended under a partial Hermitage
Foundation scholarship. Her musical compositions for motion pictures have
received critical acclaim from the Los Angeles Times, Variety, The New York
Daily News, and People Magazine. She has had 3 world premiers of her music
at the Los Angeles Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Ms. Hart performed
for 3 years with the world renowned Los Angeles Master Chorale. She has toured
Europe many times as featured soloist with choirs, including a Vatican performance
for the Pope. She was recently featured in the motion picture remake of Snow
White, where she was the singing voice of Sigourney Weaver. Ms. Hart is a
20 year member of ASCAP, and has been a recipient of the ASCAP Special Awards
every year since 1993.
Strong “word-of-mouth” has introduced Ms. Hart’s choral music into high schools, colleges, grade schools, churches and temples throughout the U.S., and now in Europe. Finalist in the 2001 USA Songwriting Competition, Judah’s Maccabees: A Hanukkah Gospel Story continues to thrill audiences. It’s a little bit gospel, a little bit rap, a dash of humor, and a whole lot of soul! Most recently, in December 2003, it was featured along with Stevie Wonder in a special holiday celebration. Sales for the 120-voice Angel City Chorale CD, featuring the songs Judah and Hey, Baby Jesus! have reached into the thousands. Mt. San Antonio College concert choir, Grand Prix International choral champions, has selected Hey, Baby Jesus! again for their 2004 European tour.
“Thank you so much for your music! I can't think of another piece I've ever
worked on, with any choir I've taught, that has generated this much enthusiasm
and honest desire to work - and I've been doing this for about 11 years now!”
Kelly Shepard, Department Chair of Theatre Arts,
Director of Choral and Vocal Studies for the
