Original Text

English Translation

Danket dem Herren, denn er ist freundlich,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;
danket dem Gott aller Götter,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;
danket dem Herrn aller Herren,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;

Give thanks to the Lord,
    for his mercy endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods,
    for his mercy endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords,
    for his mercy endures forever.

der große Wunder tut alleine,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;
der die Himmel ordentlich gemacht hat,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich.
Der die Erde aufs Wasser ausgebreitet hat,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;

To him who alone does great wonders,
    for his mercy endures forever.
To him by wisdom make the heavens,
    for his mercy endures forever.
To him who spread the earth above the waters,
    for his mercy endures forever.

der große Lichter gemacht hat,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;
die Sonn, dem Tage fürzustehen,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;
den Monden und Sterne, der Nacht fürzustehen,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;
der Ägypten schlug an ihren ersten Geburten,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;
und führet Israel heraus,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;
durch mächtige Hand und ausgerecktem Arm,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich.

To him who made the great lights,
    for his mercy endures forever.
The sun to rule by day,
    for his mercy endures forever.
The moon and stars to rule by night,
    for his mercy endures forever.
To him who smote the firstborn of Egypt,
    for his mercy endures forever.
And brought Israel out from among them,
    for his mercy endures forever.
With a strong hand and an outstretched arm,
    for his mercy endures forever.

Der das Schilfmeer teilet in zwei Teil,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;
und ließ Israel durchhingehen,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;
der Pharao und sein Heer
ins Schilfmeer stieß,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich.

To him who divided the Red sea in two,
    for his mercy endures forever.
And made Israel pass through the middle,
    for his mercy endures forever.
But overthrew Pharoah and his host
in the Red sea.
    for his mercy endures forever.

Der sein Volk führet
durch die Wüsten,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;
der große Könige schlug,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;
und erwürget mächtige Könige,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;
Sihon, der Amoriter Könige,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;
und Og, den König zu Basan,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;

To him who led his people
through the wilderness,
    for his mercy endures forever.
To him who smote great kings,
    for his mercy endures forever.
and slaughtered famous kings,
    for his mercy endures forever.
Sihon, king of the Amorites,
    for his mercy endures forever.
and Og, king of the Bashan,
    for his mercy endures forever.

und gab ihr Land zum Erbe,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;
zum Erbe seinem Knecht Israel,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;
denn er gedachte an uns,
da wir untergedrucket waren,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich;
und erlöset uns von unsern Feinden,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich.

And gave their land as a heritage,
    for his mercy endures forever.
heritage to his servant Israel,
    for his mercy endures forever.
who remembered us
in our low estate,
    for his mercy endures forever.
and rescued us from our enemies,
    for his mercy endures forever.

Der allem Fleische Speise gibt,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich.
Danket dem Gott vom Himmel,
    denn seine Güte währet ewiglich.

Who gives food to all flesh,
    for his mercy endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of heaven
    for his mercy endures forever.

Psalm 136
