Benjamin Britten (1913-76)

Benjamin Britten, also know as the Baron Britten of Aldeburgh, wrote many popular works, all in a traditional vein, including A Ceremony of Carols (1942), A Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra (1945), and the great War Requiem (1962). His operas include Peter Grimes (1945), The Turn of the Screw (1954), and Death in Venice (1973). In 1976 Queen Elizabeth II named h im a life peer.
