Robert Burns

Chorus:
|: The Campbells are comin, Oho! Oho! :|
The Campbells are comin to bonie Lochleven,
The Campbells are comin Oho! Oho!

Upon the Lomonds I lay, I lay,
Upon the Lomonds I lay, I lay,
I looked down to bonie Lochleven,
And saw three bonie perches play.
Chorus:

2. Great Argyle he goes before,
He maks his cannons and guns to roar,
Wi' sound o trumpet, pipe and drum
The Campbells are comin Oho, Oho!
Chorus:

3. The Campbells they are a'in arms
Their loyal faith and truth to show,
Wi banners rattling in the wind
The Campbells are comin Oho, Oho!
Chorus:

Burns muddled history with this song. He starts with the Campbell involvement in the Jacobite rebellion, and turns back the clock a couple of hundred years to the time of Mary Queen of Scots, who was imprisoned at Lochleven Castle in 1567. The 5th Earl of Argyle, who also was a Campbell, was the one who came to her rescue.

Ever since the clan sided with Robert Bruce, the Campbells were one of the most powerful clans in all of Scotland.
