Ellen van Eyk holds a Master Degree (cum laude) in Music from the University of Port Elizabeth as well as various aother qualifications. She lectured at the University of Port Elizabeth, Goudstad, Soweto and Johannesburg Colleges of Education. She researched traditional African music and published an anthology of African songs: Sing Soweto.
